Hey all you crazy women!
I will be leaving in one week to head to Greenville North Carolina for a reunion Alpha Phi Sorority Delta Alpha Chapter. The campus is celebrating 50 years of sorority involvement at East Carolina University. I, of course have to bring my scrapbook of all of my memories, but I was dismayed when I took the album out (it is 21 years old) and realized what poor condition it was in.
My first roommate at ECU, Amy, introduced me to scrapbooking in 1986. I had never heard of it but was totally intrigued. Amy (thank goodness), also convinced me to go through Sorority Rush and the rest is history! Since scrapbooking was not popular back then, I used one of those adhesive albums that you pull back the plastic and your photos stick directly to the page! YIKES, was that a mistake! 21 years later, my pictures and memorabilia were disintegrating before my eyes. I tried to salvage all that I could from the album, but some of the paper had 'melted' into the pages. I decided that since I didn't use a lot of embellishments back in '86, that I would keep my album simple and went with a black background on all of the page. Alpha Phi's colors are Silver and Bordeaux, so I used them as an accents and used Stampin' Up Silver Embossing Powder with my stamps. I retyped some of the brochures that were handed out at Rush because they were disintegrating and used Stampin' Up Whisper White Card stock in my printer that is acid free and will stand the test of time. I focused mostly on the journaling and pictures and some of the embellishments from Rush.
I am posting the first 10 pages I have completed, but will add more to this entry as I finish them. Hopefully, this will give you some impetus to get out your old albums and see what kind of condition they are in. Fix them, before it is too late. Keep your albums simple and journal as much as you can.

The main stamp set I used is from Stampin' Up called 'Elements of Styles'. It is a beautiful set and offers delicate embellishments when pair with the Silver Embossing Powder. I used Stampin' Up Basic Black 12x12 paper, but an neutral color works well for a consistent background.
