Stampin' Up House of Haunts Halloween Card and Gift Bag Tutorial

I know it's only September, but if you are a crafter, you probably got started on your Halloween projects last month!  I thought this was a cute Halloween card from the current SU catalog, and then I incorporated it into a fun gift bag!

Supplies you will need for this project:

House of Haunts Stamp Set (#111574"

Black Card Stock (# 102851  )  6 1/4" x 6 1/2" (scored at 3 1/4" along the 6 1/2" side)

Crushed Curry Card Stock (#115319) 3 1/4" x 3 1/2"

Whisper White Card Stock (#100730) 3 1/4" x 1"

Rich Razzleberry Card Stock (#115316) 3 1/4" x 1" and 3 1/4" x 1/8"

Old Olive Card Stock (#100702) 3 1/4" x 1"

Black Embossing Powder (#109133)

To begin your project, take your 3 1/4" x 3 1/2"Crushed Curry Card stock and using your Crushed Curry Classic Stamp Pad, stamp two of the tree images---line up with the top of your card top so that you have space on the bottom.

The next step you will take your Embossing Buddy and cover the whole area of cardstock (this will prevent your embossing powder from stick to your previously stamped images.)   Then using your VersaMark ink and  your Haunted house stamp, you will stamp an image over the trees. (again lining up at the top of your cardstock)

Now you will proceed to emboss your VersaMarked image using your SU Black embossing Powder and your Heat Gun tool

Go ahead and emboss your 'Happy Halloween' on your 3/14"x 1" Whisper White card stock---line up on the right side.

Next take your Rich Razzleberry Card stock and your Old Olive Card stock and one edge on each piece.

Take your adhesive and attach the Rich Razzleberry card stock to the Whisper White card stock and have just a small portion of the ripped section 'peek out'.  Do the same with the Old Olive card stock, just attach it to the bottom of your Crushed Curry card stock.  Take your small strip of Rich Razzleberry card stock (3 1/4" x 1/8") and attach it just below the Haunted House image.

Attach your button using SU Mini Glue Dots (my most favorite SU product!)

Viola!  A cute and fun and VERY EASY card for Halloween!  I always tell my customers that when they are making a card, cut enough card stock to make 4.  You have all the supplies out and then you don't have to scramble when you need to send a card.

I loved this design so much, that I decided to use it and modify it for a gift bag.  I am using a craft colored bag which I buy in bulk on the internet.  SU sells some very high quality white gift bags if you would prefer.

I used my SU crimper to give the bag some dimension---love that crimper!

New stampers always say to me---I would love to stamp, but I don't have any supplies and I don't know how to get started.  I always tell them---find a project you love, buy the supplies you only need for that project and then build from there.  That way you feel a sense of accomplishment and you are using the supplies you have purchased.

Stampin' Up Just Jawing Shaker Card Criss/Cross Technique Skull

This is my absolute favorite stamp set from Stampin' Up---Just Jawing!  It caught my eye in the last catalog and I have used it for so many cards!  Our group does a card swap and this is the card I did for my submission.  Our challenge was to use the criss/cross card technique and then decorate in our own personality!  I have a tutorial for the criss/cross card technique at http://crazystampinwomen.typepad.com/crazystampinwomen/2009/01/stampin-up-love-you-much-criss-cross-valentine-card-tutorial.html

I also decided to add the shaker card technique to the skull's eyes!  I usually use only Stampin' UP materials, but with the change in catalog, I have not received my new products yet.  I think this card would look fantastic with the new Stampin' UP 'Rockability Specialty' Designer Paper.  I used Pink Polka Dot paper that I had lying around and for the skull paper, I used SU Ghostly Greetings.  I also used pink jewels from the local scrapbook store because I had to make multiple cards for the swap.  If I was only making one card I probably would have used the SU Circle Fire Rhinestone brads in Pink!  I had a lot of fun with this card!  I thought this would be a wonderful card to send to a favorite friend or sister!

This is how you make the 'shaker' eyes

 

You need to first stamp you image---cut it out---then cut our the area for the eyes.  When I am doing a project like this I love having my SUPER sharp SU Paper Snips---It is so much easier to maneuver around the edges.  Then using my SU 3/4" Circle Punch, I punch out 2 clear acetate circles (just go to Office Max and buy overhead project sheets---very cheap!), and then using my SU 1" Circle Punch I punch out 2 white circles.   We will be using SU Stampin' Dimensionals in just a second!  SU Stampin' Dimensionals are another one of those items that you should have a basic tool in your possession when you are making projects, cards or scrapbook pages---I use mine all the time!

 

Take your dimensionals and cut them in half and adhere the circles around the acetate.  One helpful tip---remove the backing from the dimensionals BEFORE you add your glitter.  This is a tedious job and if you have glitter in the reservoir, it is twice as difficult.

 

Create a funnel with a small piece of paper and funnel the glitter into each 'eye'.  Don't fill it completely up, because you want the glitter to be able to move around.

 

Immediately press your 1" white circles on top and seal in your glitter.

 

Viola!  Shaker Eyes! 

You could also add beads, chunkier glitter, etc---make your eyes FUN!

Stampin' Up Medallion Card Tutorial Embosslits Die Sweetest Stem

Another cold day in Wisconsin, another day in the craft room!  I received a card in a card swap with this cute little medallion on it and immediately thought of my new Stampin' Up Embosslits Die 'Sweetest Stem' and wanted to make my own version.  On the card I received, the medallion measured 2 3/4' x 2 3/4" but that size over powered my standard card, so of course I improvised!

Now how to make it!

I used a standard size card 5 1/4" x 8 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4"

Then I made my flower in the middle using my Sizzix Big Shot Die Cut Machine and the new Embosslits Die 'Sweetest Stems'  (available in the new catalog.  I wish the picture showed in better, but the flower is embossed and is REALLY pretty.  With this particular die, it embosses and cuts out the image.  I added the flat back pearls (from my SU Prettiest Kit) as an accent using mini glue dots.  When I first got my 'SU Prettiest Kit", I didn't know what to do with all the different embellishments, but now I find it is the first thing I go to because it can really soften up a card.

 

Then I made the medallion.  I cut a piece of cardstock 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and using my SU Scallop Edge Punch, punched around all four sides.  The trick to this is lining up the edges.  If you look on either side of your punch, you will see two small lines---your cardstock should line up perfectly with these lines.  I hope you can see them in the picture below.

 

Here are the sizes for the other pieces I added to the card:

Designer Paper: 2 1/4"x 5 1/4"

Medallion: 2 1/4" x 2 1/4"

Circle:  1 1/4" SU Circle Punch

Paper running through Medallion (you could also use a ribbon) 1 1/4" x 5 1/4"

 

Adhere your embellishments on your card (I use SU dimensionals on the flower) and VIOLA!  a fun and easy card.  Once again, use what you have and recreate this card idea.

Stampin' Up Love You Much Criss Cross Valentine Card Tutorial

O.K. Guys---we were on scrapbook pages for a awhile, but I need to think of a cute card that my children can give the daddy for Valentine's Day.  I wanted a card that was different from the standard card and could hold a small picture in it.  I had seen this type of card several years ago, but it used a 'friendship' theme instead of Valentine's Day.  Of course I thought of my Love You Much bundle and since I like to use products that I have bought, here is my example!  Have you purchased the Love You Much Bundle yet?? Here is my card example finished:

 

To begin to make the card, cut 2 piece of cardstock 4 1/4" x 11"---I used SU Close to Cocoa

 

Then I scored both pieces at 5 1/2", and then cut one piece from the center to the left corner and the other piece from the center to the right corner.

 

This is what the two pieces look like when you are done.

   

Then you add adhesive to the middle section of one of the pieces---I used SU Sticky Strip (once again guys if you haven't bought the SU Sticky Strip, what are you waiting for---it is SUPER strong!) and adhese the two pieces together (see example below)

 

Next you will cut a piece of Double Sided Designer Paper---I used the Candy Lane Paper that came in my Love You Much bundle---4"x5"---you will then cut your piece diagonally so that you have two separate triangles---you will then adhese the triangles to the cardstock

 

Now, turn your piece over and add more Sticky Strip to the bottom part of your middle piece and to the corner of which ever triangle you want to lie on top.

 

If you are looking at the picture above, you would adhese the left side down first and then adhese the right on top.  This is what it will look like when you are done:

 

Set your folder aside, now we will make the insert.  Cut a coordinating piece of cardstock 3 3/4" x 5"  (I used Riding Hood Red) and then a neutral piece of cardstock 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" (I used Vanilla).  I then rounded the top corners with my corner rounder punch.

 

Next, embellish your insert as you wish.  I added a tab on top (so it would be easy to pull out) using my SU Tab Punch (can you tell I am CRAZY about SU's punches???) and used my Heart punch from the Love You Much Bundle (20% off RIGHT NOW!)and added some cute details. I am planning to put a picture of each child in the area next to the 'Love"

 

This is what the card looks like with the insert pulled out.  I added an embellishment on the front by stamping the image on several pieces of paper and using my scallop punch and circle punch to layer.

Stampin' Up Love You Much Card Tutorial

Happy New Year's Eve!!

I hope you all have wonderful plans for ringing in the New Year (however big or small they may be!).  I am at home with my seven year old son who is recovering from Tonsil surgery and my husband is at the office---I think our New Year's will be low-key!

Since my son is asleep on the couch, I thought I would sneak down to my craft room and see if I could come up with some ideas.  I recently got my January issue of Stampin' Discuss and there were some wonderful project and card ideas.  I have ordered many of the stamp sets they were demonstrating, but have not received them yet.  I always find it frustrating to see a project that I really like and then not have the right products to complete it (usually I am just missing just one or two items---ugh!).  So, not to stop the creativity, I took one of SU's card ideas and used my Love You Much bundle and recreated the card with the supplies I do have.  Now you can do the same---don't have the Love You Much Bundle (why not, it's 20% off right now!!), then use the colors, stamps and embellishments you do have.  Take this basic card and turn it up a notch (I know you guys are more creative than I am!!)  I think that is why I love blogging (and visiting fellow bloggers), sharing ideas and then making them your own!  Any questions regarding the tutorial or if you want to order any of the products, please contact me at rubberforme@gmail.com or www.nancyhendel.stampinup.net

Here is the finished card:

   

To begin this card, cut a piece of card stock 5 3/4" x 6 1/2" and score at 3 1/4" on the 6 1/2" side

 

Next, you will trim 1/2" off the side of the front of your card (make sense?)

 

Then, you will cut a contrasting piece of SU designer paper 1" x 5 3/4" (I used Candy Lane Designer Paper---part of the Love You Much Bundle).  Using your SU Scallop Edge Punch (or a pair of scallop edge scissors), punch one of the long edges.  I didn't like this punch when I first got it, but now it is one of my favorites---it is so easy to use and you get a more accurate edge than with decorative scissors!

 

Adhese your designer paper to your card stock---line up the scallops evenly with the back of your card.

 

Now add a pretty ribbon to cover your edges on the front and inside of your card.  I use SU Glue Dots to adhese my ribbon---they are super sticky and are small enough to hide behind the ribbon. (another favorite product!!)

 

Next I created my embellishment for the front of the card.  I used the SU Scallop Punch with some of the Candy Lane Designer Paper.  Then I used the 1 3/8" SU Circle Punch with Close to Cocoa card stock, then I stamped my image with Close to Cocoa classic ink and punched the image out with a SU 1" Circle Punch, then I stamped the image again on a contrasting piece of Candy Lane Paper and cut out just the heart.  I adhesed these all together and added them to my card using a Stampin' Dimensional and then stamped my greeting using Close to Cocoa.

Stampin' Up Accordion Flower Candy Lane Paper Heart Punch Valentine Day Card Tutorial

HI Guys!

This is what the completed project will look like---as always, use what you have---change the colors, change the embellishments and you will have a brand new card!  Enjoy!  Nancy

   

To begin, you will need to cut a strip of paper 1" by 12".  You will need to score this paper every 1/4".  This is the time consuming part of the card.  I found it went faster if you laid the piece of paper on your cutter and just kept moving it up 1/4" after each score.

 

After you have scored your paper, fold it back and forth to create an accordion fold.

 

Adhese the two ends so that the accordion completes a circle.  The only adhesive I suggest is the 'Sticky Strip' (shown in the picture)---it is super strong and will not allow your flower to unravel once it is lying flat.

 

Next you will 'fold' the accordion ring in, so that it lies flat.

 

On the 'back' side of your flower, place a 1" circle with Sticky Strip adhesive in the middle of your flower.  This will hold the petals in place and keep it's shape.

 

Then, turn over your flower to the 'correct side and add an embellishment on the front.  I used the hearts from the new heart punch, but you could put another circle or even a large button.  Use the Sticky Strip for adhesive to give the flower more strength.

 

Next, you will make the stem for the flower---you could use a variety of objects for the stem.  I used some left over on-board chipboard and cut a long, thin piece.  You could use a twig, or a pipe cleaner or a piece of ribbon---whatever you have available.  I attached some Certainly Celery Ribbon for the 'leaves'.

 

To create the card, I cut a piece of Very Vanilla paper 3 1/4" x 12" and scored at 6".  I cut a piece of coordinating Candy Lane Designer Paper at 2 3/4" x 5 1/2" and then an additional piece of coordinating paper at 2 3/4" by 2 1/2" and tore the top edge.  I rounded all of the bottum corners using the SU Corner Punch to give it a softer look.

 

I completed the project by adhesing all of the pieces together using SNAIL adhesive and glue dots for the stem.  I added a cute Valentine's saying and connected it using linen thread.  This three dimensional card is so cute and REALLY easy!

Stampin' Up Thanksgiving Punch Turkey Card

O.K. Guys---can you stand one more project using the Stampin' Up Punches??  I thought this little turkey was so whimsical.  This was a featured project in the October issue os Stampin' Success (which is a demonstrator only magazine).

 

To make the Turkey's Feathers, use your scallop punch---count five scallops and fold that flap down.

   

Turn circle over---fold in half to form crease for reference.

 

Fold Flat down fro each side so folded edges line up with the middle crease.

 

All three feather colors.  A helpful hint.  I staple the feather down by the point before I attach to the body using glue dots.  The feathers tend to lay better.

 

To make the other parts of the Turkey, use 1 3/8" punch for the body.  3/4" punch for the head.  Double circle punch for the eyes.  1/4" circle punch for the buttons.  3/4" square trimmed for the hat.  Boho Blosoms punch for the feet.  The card size is 4"x4" and the white card stock is 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".

Wouldn't these also make GREAT placecards for your Thanksgiving Table???

Stampin' Up Big Shot Top Note Christmas Punch Santa Card

I just loved the Frankenstein Top Note Card, so I had to take it to the next level and make a Santa Claus Card using the SU Top Note Die Cut.    I used the Top Note Die Cut in Blush Blossum for Santa's face.  My friend Mary, wanted a Santa who was more realistic for her family, so I used Close to Cocoa on her's.  I used Whisper White for the beard and sponge Creamy Caramel to antique it a little bit.  For the eyes, I used the 1" and 3/4" punch and for the mustache, I used the smaller corner from the SU Photo Corner Punch.  I think he turned out pretty cute!  Let me know what you think!!

Stampin' Up Christmas Card Idea---Scandinavian Season Stamp Set

Our October Card Swap is in process---our theme is 'Think Winter'---any card idea that incorporates the theme of Winter Time/Holidays.  The card swap is not due until October 20th, but I am having surgery on Monday and needed to complete mine early.  I was really drawn to the 'Scandinavian Season' Set when the Mini Catalog came out.  My best friend in Houston is from Norway and I know she would love this set.  I could not see this set stamped in regular ink, I could only see gold embossing.  I ordered the 'Ski Slope' Designer Paper, so I went with the base colors of Real Red and Old Olive.  My friend from Albia Iowa (Kendra S.) had created a beautiful card for our spring swap that incorporated a quilt look using paper, so I borrowed her idea for my background.  Then I finished it off with the idea SU had in the mini catalog with a Pearl from the SU Pretties Kit as a decoration for the tree..  I added some extra embossing on the designer paper because there just wasn't enough shine!!  I thought I would add the measurements for the small bits of paper---that always frustrates me when I want to copy something and don't have the measurements.  The card is a standard size of 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", but I opened from the top and not the side.  The Old Olive is just 4" x 5 1/4".  The Designer Paper is---Green color  1 1/2" x 3 7/8" and 1 7/8" x 1 7/8"    The Red Color  1 7/8" x 3 1/2" and  1 7/8" x 1 1/2".

It just about killed me not to incorporate a punch in my card, but I thought I might be thrown out of my own swap if I did another one!

This card was very simple and when I did it in an assembly line, my swaps went quickly.

Stampin' Up Stamp Set Humor in Heals Card Idea

The UPS Man brought my Stampin' Up package today---so, I had to play with my new sets.  I have been wanting to get 'Humor in Heels' since the catalog came out.  Stamping, purses and shoes---what a great combination.  I made this card using the Big Shot Top Note Die Cut (Pixie Pink) and I added the embellishment across the bottum using the new Scallop Edge Punch.  I then embellished that using the 1/8" handheld punch in each of the scallops.  This card is a great template to use whatever stamp sets you already have at home.  Change the colors and change the image and you have a totally different look.  Several of you have e-mailed me and said you weren't quite ready to make the financial commitment to the Big Shot Machine but you love the Top Note Die Cut.  I have been offering to punch the die cut in any of the SU colors for $1.00 per page.  I can get 4 Die Cuts out of a page of 8 1/2" x 11" paper.  Shipping is minimal---I just sent 8 pages to New York and the shipping was $1.15.
